FYI Healthwise -- Pronouncing Welsh

Welsh names: Help in pronouncing the little fellows:

Welsh names ending in "dog" Or "og" are anglicized to "doc" Or "oc" Like Teulyddog is pronounced Teullyddoc.

  1. "dd" is prounced as "th" in "the" not as in "think"
  2. "y" has a Schwa sound, as in rose
  3. "ch" as a German sound as in "Bcah", or Yiddish "Chutzpah"
  4. "f" as "v"
  5. "ff" as in the English, treat as one letter
  6. "ll" Treat as one letter, hard to pronounce, sound out the "l", then hiss..like "cl" Or "hl"
  7. "th" as in think
  8. "w" often pronounced as a vowel "u" or as a consonant "gw" as in Gwen
